Advent Devotional and Events

Advent Devotionals and Events

You’ll receive a postcard this week with information about Advent and Christmas worship. In addition, we’ve prepared two devotionals—they’re both for everyone, but one is more geared toward families with younger children, and one is more accessible to adults (you choose which is right for you!). “The Season of Waiting (and Waiting… and Waiting…)” by Kate Bowler is available in desktop or brower format by emailing office@fccb.net. For “An Illustrated Advent for Families: Now in Flesh Appearing” email office@fccb.net or children can pick up a copy at the Welcome Desk in the Narthex.

  • Nov. 27: Advent Calendars—children will make their own during church school!
  • Dec. 4: Christmas Presence—our annual fun time following worship when we make “graham cracker creations” (or gingerbread houses), sing carols, or take a family photo. All ages are encouraged to join us!
  • Dec. 4: Stained Glass Sale supporting Interfaith Coalition—Larry Green will once more share his creative gifts for purchase before and after the worship service.
  • Dec. 10: Pageant Rehearsal—time TBD (in the morning), keep an eye on Friday Email announcements.
  • Dec. 11: Children’s Pageant will be part of our worship service. Any child who’d like to participate will have a role. Come early to dress up (contact susan@fccb.net with questions).
  • Dec. 21: Blue Christmas Service—a brief and meditative service honoring the truth that sometimes the holidays are hard, that grief is real, that Emmanuel (God-with-Us) is present even if we’re not in the mood to celebrate. Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary.
  • We’re still waiting to hear back from Village Books to see if they will have a book sale with us this year.
  • We also hope to have new prayer stations and the labyrinth in the Chapel throughout Advent—you can visit them any time the church office is open.
  •  The Wednesday Evening Adult Forum will share a special Advent study, listening to different voices speaking on the meaning of Advent--November 30: The Theologians Speak; December 7: The Children Speak; December 14:  Indigenous Voices Speak; December 21: - The Poet Speaks. Everyone is welcome to join this group on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm
