The Faith Formation Board is pleased to announce the 2023 All Church Read. Our chosen book is Speak with the Earth and It will Teach You by Daniel Cooperrider. It is an analysis of the Bible’s treatment of nature. It is a timely work on the gift of the Earth that makes a strong case for environmental conservation as a cornerstone of religious life. The book is now in stock at Village Books. Check the Reading Groups section near the front door to receive a discount on your purchase. Copies are also available in the church library. The Faith Formation Board urges all church members and friends to read this volume. The Adult Forum and other groups will offer opportunities to discuss the book.
Because we are a diverse congregation of many different ages, this year the Faith Formation Board is also recommending two companion volumes for church reading. Right Now! Real Kids Speaking Up for Change by Miranda Paul, illustrated by Bea Jackson, is a picture book The book is written for young readers, ages 4-7 and up. It is a great read aloud for children and grandchildren. The Hurting Kind by Poet Laureate Ada Limón is a collection of poems arranged around the seasons of the year. It is the kind of book that you will want to read in small slices, returning again and again for inspiration and reflection.
Another new feature of the 2023 All Church Read is that we have added all of the books that were nominated for the all church read to our church library. Members and friends may be interested in purchasing or borrowing one or more of the nominated volumes. A list appears below.
