Climate Revival November 5

A “Climate Revival” is coming to Bellingham on Saturday, November 5, as First Congregational Church of Bellingham, United Church of Christ (UCC), hosts a seminar focused on what is being done locally to address climate change and what actions communities can take. The free hybrid event, taking place from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, will be in person at First Congregational Church (2401 Cornwall Ave., Bellingham) and also on the church’s Facebook feed. A variety of faith and secular communities have been invited to participate.

The keynote speaker is the Reverend Dr. Jim Antal, author of Climate Church, Climate World, published in 2018. He is a graduate of Princeton University, Andover Newton Theological School, and Yale Divinity School. In 2017, Yale Divinity School honored Rev. Dr. Antal with the William Sloane Coffin award for Peace and Justice.

A climate activist since the 1980s and a leading voice in the United Church of Christ, he has written that “this moral crisis constitutes a theological emergency.” Rev. Dr. Antal lives on the East Coast and will speak via Zoom during the forum, including a question  and answer time after his presentation.

A local panel will follow—Seth Vidana, Climate and Energy Manager for the City of Bellingham; and Keah Calluccie, Multifaith Program Manager with Earth Ministry/Washington Interfaith Power & Light. Each will speak for 15 minutes, followed by the panel responding to questions from the live and online audiences.

Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest from the Lhaq’temish/Lummi Nation will read one of her poems as a benediction for the event.
