The Covenant Groups will begin meeting next week! Covenant Groups are groups of 6-10 people that meet to discuss issues of faith. The groups meet for just 7 sessions, so it is not a longterm commitment, but they provide an opportunity to get to know other people in the church and to discuss issues of faith. The theme this year is “The Art of Practicing Your Faith.” This is a timely theme for our congregation with our focus on going deeper with our faith.
Just a few words of clarification. The Covenant Groups are not book studies or Bible studies. Although the title begins with “the art of…” it is not an arts and crafts group. There has been some confusion about that, but you won’t have to produce art pieces in order to be a part of a group! Of course, artistic expressions of faith are always welcome, but this is not an expectation of the group. Everyone is welcome to participate, including those who are new to the church and those who have been around for many years.
There are five groups currently forming.
Julie Gorrell will lead a group on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays following worship. This group will begin meeting this Sunday, January 8 at 11:15 am in the church library. This is a good option for people who are already at church and would like to continue conversation.
Janet Ott will lead a group at 1:00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays via Zoom. This group will begin meeting on Monday, January 9. This works well if you are comfortable with Zoom.
Joyce Moseley-Sweeney will lead a weekday morning group, meeting from 10:00-11:30 am on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, beginning January 12.They will meet in the Fireplace Room at the church.
David Fayram will lead a group meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 pm, beginning January 12. They will also meet in the Fireplace Room.
John Mark and Mona Slagle will lead an evening covenant group on the fourth Wednesdays via Zoom. The first meeting will be on January 25 from 5:00-6:00 pm. Subsequent meetings will be held at 6:00 pm.
There is room for additional people in all the groups, so if you have been thinking about joining a Covenant Group, I hope you will prayerfully consider signing up for one of these groups. Contact susan@fccb.net for information.
