Community to Community is hosting a Dignity Dialogue with Lelo Juarez Monday, August 9, 2021, 7:00-9:00 pm at St. James Presbyterian Church, 910 14th Street, Bellingham, WA. Everyone is welcome.
Come hear a report back from community member Lelo Juarez, who was racially profiled by Bellingham police in 2016 when he was 15 years old, which resulted in his detention at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. None of his family was notified. Lelo Juarez has been a leader in the community and in the struggle for workers’ rights at Sakuma Farms since 2014.
Team members from C2C will also give updates on current policy proposals, recent legislation that impacts Whatcom County community safety, and actions that community members can take to fight back against family separation in Bellingham and the County.
This Dignity Dialogue provides participants opportunities to ask questions and offer strategies to create safer, more ethical law enforcement for farmworker and immigrant families in Whatcom County.
Please note space is limited due to covid precautions. Registration is required. RSVP here: https://forms.gle/uf8fs8kXUYdq2WVk9
