First Congregational Church was a founding partner in bringing the Family Promise program to Bellingham. Family Promise serves families experiencing homelessness by providing stable housing, case management, and four family-selected meal kits per week. Six families are being served at this time by the over 30 congregations that join together to provide support on a rotation basis. Each congregation takes four weeks a year where they provide the direct support to families.
The First Congregational Church Family Promise coordinator serves as a member of a team with a second First Congregational coordinator (currently Megan Douglas) and the lead coordinator from the Red Cedar Zen Center to publicize the upcoming rotation week, recruit volunteers for the week, and schedule a team to deliver the meals. There is also a truly creative component of sending special surprises to the children and youth in the families.
If you want a volunteer position that is specific to four times a year and is entirely online/ phone, this position may be for you. For more information, contact Sharon Camblin at camblins@comcast.net or 360-220-3415.
