Who We’re From, Who We Are, Who We’re Called to Be (and Pastor in Public times)

The past is alive, trembling within the present. ~ Dara Horn

What did you discover over these three months of sabbatical time? Did you make any connections with your personal history or First Congregational’s? Did you discover anything about where you or our church is being called? What was this period like for you?

My own heritage searching took me to New York and New Jersey in the USA as well the Thuringia region of Germany. It led me through Dara Horn’s
People Love Dead Jews, Cedrick Bridgeforth’s Alabama Grandson, Resmaa Menakem’s My Grandmother’s Hands—each of which offered meaning or insight to what I was learning.

If you’d like to chat about some of these experiences—or others you’ve had—join me at one of the upcoming Pastor in Public times when I’ll be hanging out around town ready to connect. Pop in for an hour or just a couple minutes:

  • Thursday, August 25, 5:00-6:30 pm @ Elizabeth Station (1400 W Holly Street)
  • Sunday, August 28, 1:00-2:30 pm @ Squalicum Creek Park (1001 Squalicum Way, near the zip line, BYOBlanket or chair)
  • Wednesday, August 31, 8:30-10:00 am @ Avenue Bread in Fairhaven (1135 11th Street).

It’ll be great to catch up with you in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

In hope,
Pastor Sharon
