Coordinating Colors and Care

We are a nurturing, beloved community,

growing authentic Christian faith, living Christ-inspired action.

-Our Vision

As a congregation, we work to live out our vision in many ways, both inside and outside the church. One of the gifts of faith community is being able to share with one another the highs and lows of what’s happening for us personally as we serve to build God’s Shalom in this place. Nurturing one another’s spirits helps us navigate the world and all that it holds.

Last week the Arts in Worship Board came together to prepare the sanctuary for another new liturgical season, Lent. In their monthly meetings they think through the meaning and theme of each upcoming season, weighing the possibilities and praying about the people who enter the space. They perpetually struggle with wondering who will be available to climb ladders for them (it’s a real question) and with recognizing their work will be meaningful to some and lifeless to others (we all encounter art differently), all because they take seriously the way space can enhance an idea or experience (and maybe even draw us toward the Holy).

These Board members, while they serve the direct purpose of their ministry[1], also nurture beloved community. Every meeting they begin with a long and deep period of sharing with one another. They pray for what’s going on in each other’s lives, which is sometimes quite painful. They have built a trusting, caring group of folk who care for one another as they serve—in my thinking, that’s the best way of working together! Knowing that your team supports you when you aren’t able to be present in the way you might in another time, checking in to share with you when times are joyful, and just recognizing you’re more than the work you do, helps us know we’re a beloved child of God in this place.

After they finished the Lenten sanctuary space, somebody noticed, “Hey, we color coordinated!” Each member of the board had dressed to complement one another and they art they prepared for the sanctuary.

Coincidence? Likely.

Holy Spirit? Possibly.

Connection with one another? Absolutely!

We are a nurturing, beloved community, in our work, in our play, and in our worship. That’s part of our vision, and I’m grateful to each board for living into that in your unique ways.

Serve on,

Sharon

(though the congregation suspended part of these bylaws at the February 11, 2024 Annual Congregational Meeting, we continue to use them as a guide in our ministries as we live into a “next” governance structure, still in process).
