Midweek Message January 5, 2022

Decisions, Decisions…

I truly believe that when the body of Christ comes together in prayer and open to the Spirit, our conversation and decision-making is wiser than it is when we are alone. It’s one of the reasons I love the United Church of Christ’s covenantal polity: relationship connections matter for so many reasons!

Every year at this time we’re preparing for our Annual Congregational Meeting, at which decisions are made for life of our congregation. We vote on the leadership who will help guide our work in the next year, we honor those who’ve led us thus far and the ministries we’ve served, and we discuss a Funding Plan (budget) and how it will serve the ministries we’re committed to in this new year.

To aid as much discussion with you as possible, the Funding Plan Committee asked me to share a timeline of conversations about how we might financially support our ministries in 2022. Please share this with others in the congregation, so we might bring together as many voices, hearts, minds, and ears of Christ’s body as possible.

  • Sunday, January 9, 11:30 am on Zoom—The Funding Plan Committee will share as much detailed info as we can and answer your questions as able. Members of Church Council will listen carefully to your thoughts and bring those into Council’s discernment in finalizing a 2022 Funding Plan.
  • Monday, January 24, 7:00 pm on Zoom—Church Council will discuss the Funding Plan Committee’s work and finalize a proposal to bring to the congregation at our Annual Meeting.
  • Monday, January 31 the proposed 2022 Funding Plan will be available to all (sent via email; you may also pick up a hard copy in the church office).
  • Sunday, February 6 at 11:30 am on Zoom—**Annual Congregational Meeting.** All voices are welcome; only covenanted members of the congregation may vote on motions.

Again, I believe in the Spirit’s presence and prodding, its embrace and laughter, its playful-compassionate-wise-wholeness when we come together to listen and discern together as church. I look forward to hearing you in these conversations.

In faith,

Pastor Sharon
