Midweek Message May 15, 2024

Blessed Be the Tie that Binds

Blessed be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the sharing of a common life
is like to that above.

-New Century Hymnal #393

Today I share the sad news that Lucy Bledig has given her resignation as our Minister of Music. She and her husband Luke will be moving to Oregon next month.

Dedicated and capable, Lucy has been a gifted Minister of Music, and I will miss her contributions beyond words. She has been much more than a choir director, and our congregation has grown with her ministry these past 5 years. From caring for our incredible instruments (pianos, organ, and handbells) to coordinating with music leaders (Chancel Choir, One Accord, Handbell Choir, Unbroken Circle and so many individuals and ensembles), to inviting new volunteers and college students, and working behind the scenes to bring new inspiration to musical possibilities, her talents and commitment will be missed.

A farewell celebration is being planned for Sunday, June 16 after worship, and I hope you will help make this a joyous sendoff. If you’d like to offer a way to contribute, please contact me (sharon@fccb.net), and I’ll get you in touch with others.

Transition is often hard, and I recognize we are currently living in a time of many changes. We feel our many feelings, knowing that God is present with us. The Spirit is also guiding us to new and faithful things! We will need to talk about next steps soon, but for now please join me in prayer and discernment about what this next period of time might look like for First Congregational Church’s music ministry. There is a lot to consider, but prayers are our first step.

Thank you for sharing your appreciations with Lucy over these next few weeks, and together we will say good-bye with God’s blessing.

When we are called to part
it gives us inward pain,
But we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.

May it be so,

Pastor Sharon
