Visioning Next Steps—This Coming Sunday!
Be Thou my vision, O God of my heart…
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, Creator of all.
-Old Irish Hymn, trans. by Mary Elizabeth Byrne
For almost two years our congregation has been in a process of visioning. This process has been different than any we’ve done before, partly because pandemic has forced us out of our prior ways of doing such things. The pieces of the puzzle we’ve been collecting over these two years have now been pulled together to form a picture. The next steps are to interpret that picture, name if any puzzle pieces are missing, and make the vision actionable (i.e.: what practices may get us where God is calling).
This coming Sunday, October 2 in worship we’ll lay out this forming picture for all of us. It’ll be a very different worship experience as we deeply listen to God’s call and one another. Whether you’re a new visitor to First Congregational or a long-time member, your voice adds to what you hear Spirit calling us toward for these next years together. Be prepared to talk with neighbors in your pew or on Zoom, or you may write down your thoughts as we journey through the service (we’ll bring them to the Table during Communion).
If you’ll be worshiping in the Bigger Balcony this week: we tested Zoom worship last Sunday with a few people, and we heard that it worked well. If you’d like to participate in the visioning discussions during worship, please try the Zoom link this week—we’re going to try to have you on the screen in worship so you may speak, too. You’ll also be able to type in the chat box.
Following worship there will be a “Going Deeper” conversation that all may join, in person or on Zoom.
Beloved of God and First Congregational, these have been a hard 2+ years and much has changed. What hasn’t changed is that we seek, together, to follow God on the next steps of our journey as a community of faith.
For Zoom links to Worship or Going Deeper, contact Cydne at office@fccb.net or see the Connection Calendar in the Friday Announcements email.
See you Sunday,
Sharon
