25th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Conference
Registration is open for the 25th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Conference. The title for this year’s conference, “From Divine Dissatisfaction to Joyful Liberation: How Do We Co-Create a Beloved Whatcom County?” is taken from Dr. King’s sermon “Where Do We Go From Here?" at the annual convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on August 16, 1967, in which he urges us to go out with a “Divine Dissatisfaction” to work for justice. The conference events span three days, from Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon.

The Unity Ball returns!
Saturday evening after the conference, celebrate yourself and the community with the return of the Unity Ball presented by the Bellingham Unity Committee from 7:00-11:00 pm at the Bellingham Yacht Club. It’s a Mardi Gras Masquerade — masks and fancy dress are encouraged! Tickets: https://unityball.brownpapertickets.com/
Whatcom Human Rights Task Force would also like to take a moment to reflect on what the Martin Luther King Holiday is all about. Dr. King’s widow, Coretta Scott King, envisioned it not as a day off but a day of service, a time to make a “personal commitment to serve humanity with the vibrant spirit of unconditional love that was [Dr. King’s] greatest strength, and which empowered all of the great victories of his leadership.” (1) In that spirit, for the past 25 years the Rev. Dr. King Conference has curated spaces for Whatcom County to learn, grow, and share our visions for dismantling white supremacy to create a just and equitable world where everyone thrives.
