Personal Climate Action

Suggestions for Individual/Family Action

Choose one small thing today that will benefit the world we are called to care for. This is a starting list from the CAN (Climate Action Now) conversation on January 30.

  • Review investments and make sure they are not supporting companies who are not involved in a climate justice approach.
  • Buy at bulk places where bottles etc. can be refilled.
  • Buy products from recyclable materials.
  • Look at new products that are more climate friendly like “Who Gives a Crap” toilet paper.
  • Investigate companies such a Ridwell that will take/recycle cycles that are not typically including in curb-side pickup.
  • Drive one day less – put errands together in a circular route.
  • Give cell phones to Lydia Place to give away as emergency (911 only) phones.
  • Purchase dairy products in glass/returnable bottles such as those available at Haggen’s and the Co-op.
  • Develop a support group and establish a buy-nothing timeframe using exchanges and giveaways to repurpose items. Build community at the same time.
  • Use prescription drop-offs at RiteAid and Hoaglands to deposit unused medications.
  • Look for the Better World Shopping Guide (available at Village books) for great information. (Better yet – buy a copy and share it with a friend.)
