The newest ‘new’ Ministry funded by Mission & Justice Board and The ‘Theresa Parakh New Ministries Fund’ is the Pet Vaccine Ministry started by First Congregational Church member and ‘One Accord’ soprano, veterinarian Dr. Kris Johnson.
Fun Fact: Kris was volunteering (and still is!) for the Dental Van ministry (highlighted last week!) to bring dental health to those who cannot afford it. Kris observed that many of those coming to the Dental Van had pets that needed attention. So, she applied for a new ministry Grant of her own! NEED meets Passion!
Kris is a veterinarian at Animal Emergency Care and has helped start a vaccine clinic program for pets of homeless and underserved in our area by partnering with her clinic and the non-profit Shadow's Forever Friends. To date, they have had four clinics for houseless pet owners, two for guests at Dorothy’s Place, and two on the Lummi Reservation (partnering with the Alternative Humane Society). The most recent one on Lummi provided vaccines, flea and parasite control, food, microchips, and information about low cost spay/neuter to 123 dogs and cats!! It was a very satisfying experience as the Lummi were very grateful and appreciative! Kris’ next upcoming clinics are at Base Camp on September 27 and October 25.
