Refugee Resettlement Update

Dear Refugee Donors and Friends,

We would like to update you on the current status of our refugee sponsorship. We were recently thrilled to receive an invitation from the local Whatcom County World Relief Resettlement Agency, to help co-sponsor a six-person Afghan family. We began an emergency effort seeking short and long-term housing along with the necessary supports. On Friday June 24, we were surprised to hear that the family chose instead to move to Chicago where they had friends.

Moving forward, World Relief has reassured us that we will receive another family co-sponsorship anytime.  This family, however, may be from Afghanistan or another country such as Guatemala or The Congo.  We wanted you to know that the family may NOT be from Afghanistan and give you the opportunity to request a return of your donation if the family is of another nationality.  If this is the case, please let us know. Otherwise, we are so thankful for your help in this humanitarian effort.

We are excited to be working with World Relief with their professional resources, access to supplies and further cultural awareness training opportunities that will better prepare us in this effort.  We will continue to update you on our status especially when a new resettlement process begins.

Thanks for your continued support.

 Sincerely,

Ann Stevenson, on behalf of the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship Refugee Resettlement Team
