Remembering the 1855 Point Elliot Treaty

Treaty Day Opportunities to Learn

In 1855, 82 tribal leaders ceded over 54,000 acres of their homeland to the United States government in the Point Elliot Treaty in order to guarantee hunting and fishing rights and reservations for all Tribes represented. January 22 is celebrated today as a way to unify and educate the community on Indigenous perspectives and the issues the Tribes face today.

The Children of the Setting Sun will hold a Treaty Day Festival at the Pickford Theater beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 20. The PBS documentary, Warrior Lawyers will be shown from 3:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, January 21 at the Old City Hall.
