Climate Justice

Ministry: Reaching out to Others

Opportunity: Share in a special Multi-Faith Network for Climate Justice Sacred Earth Fair.

When: Sunday, July 31

Talents Needed:

  • FCCB Booth – sharing our story and efforts. Planning and creating booth materials.
  • Music – This is a fair. How wonderful to share our wonderful musicians.
  • Lead a nature walk.
  • Help with children’s activities.

Time Needed: Will vary with planning involvement to one-hour support on the day of the fair.

Ministry: Reduce Materials Going to Landfills

Opportunity: Zero-waste Swap Meet in

Where: First Congregational Church/Garden Street Methodist Parking Lot

When: August 6, 10:00 am–2:00 pm

Talents and Approximate Time Needed:

  • People to be on a planning committee (4 meetings June/July)
  • Set-up crew  (2 hours)
  • People to register and participate (will vary depending on what you want to swap)
  • Clean-up crew (1 hour)

Opportunity: Help plan a special First Congregational Church dinner and movie night!

When: September 22, 2022

Where: First Congregational Church

Talent and Time Needed: An interest in bringing our church community and friends together to learn more about how we can impact climate justice.

Economic Justice

Ministry: Reaching out to our Neighbors without a permanent home

Opportunity: Cook a hot entrée or provide bread/desserts for the Garden View Tiny Homes Village

When: June 29, July 27 or August 31 (last Wednesday of each month)

Where: Cooks meet in the church parking lot at 3:30 pm to organize the entrees/extras for delivery

Talents/Time Needed: A willingness to make an entrée for a large group and delivery to FCCB

Ministry: Reaching out to our Neighbors without a permanent home

Opportunity: Shop for a meal for a family and create a “meal kit” for them to use in their temporary housing. Or agree to deliver the meal kits from a group of donors. 

When: June 27 and/or June 30  and/or August 22 and 25 between 5:00–6:00 pm

Where: Bellingham and Ferndale

Talents and Time Needed:

  • A willingness to shop for meal ingredients and deliver to First Congregational.
  • Time available to pick-up and drop-off meal kits between 5:30 and 6:00

Racial and Social Justice

Ministry: Addressing Poverty and Institutional Racism

Opportunity: Be an First Congregational Church host at the “watch party” for the community to join the national Poor People’s March on Washington, D.C.

When: June 18, time to be determined,       

Where: Church Sanctuary

Talents Needed: Willingness to be a part of the FCCB team creating community members

Time Needed: Shifts could vary and be from one hour to longer at your convenience.

Ministry: Eliminating Gun Violence

Opportunity: Support our Washington Senators and Legislators as they work to to strengthen licensing and registration of gun sales, strengthen regulations of gun dealers and ban semiautomatic assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

When: Any time. It will take less than 10 minutes.

Ministry: Learning How to be Anti-racist

Opportunity: Be involved in critical conversations about how we as a white, middle-class church move forward as a faith community that is truly anti-racist.

When: Opportunities are being developed for the summer. The May 22 program is being rescheduled.
