Before and after worship on November 24 Pilgrim Circle is hosting “Bolsos de Cati,” the first business in the community of La Colorada to provide jobs for women. There will be items for sale made from hand-woven fabric and sewed by the women of La Colorada, in El Salvador. Sewing the handbags, backpacks & other items has brought income, heightened self-esteem, and opportunities to the seamstresses, their families, and the entire community of 400 people. The project is led by Cathy & Joe Nolting’s El Salvador outreach organization. They presented their program for our April meeting, and our members thought it would be a great pre-Advent opportunity (all the proceeds are given to the women of the cooperative). Cathy is a retired Peace Health nurse who’s been organizing this outreach for almost 15 years.
