Wear Orange for Gun Safety

Wear Orange! is a national coming together of communities to honor and remember people who have been lost to gun violence and to celebrate the strides we are making to put end to the bloodshed. First Congregational Church’s Committee for Gun Responsibility is hosting Bellingham’s first Wear Orange event in the church parking lot on June 4 right after services. We hope you will wear orange, attend, and support this important work.

We have a great lineup of speakers:

  • Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood
  • State Senator Sharon Shewmake
  • Blaine Chief of Police Donnell Tanksley
  • Lily VanMullem with Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
  • Gun violence survivor Liz Hjelmseth

In addition, there will be great music from Havilah Rand, festive food, and an art project we joining called Soul Box. You can find out more about The Soul Box Project here: https://soulboxproject.org/

On the Sundays leading up to the event members of our committee will be in the social hall after services to help people make Soul Boxes for our art project. You can find out how to make them at home too by watching this quick video. https://vimeo.com/792730584

If you would like to learn more or if you could help us on the day of the event to set up, serve food, help with chalk art please contact Liz Hjelmseth or Gail Warren. Together we can end gun violence.
