Whatcom Faith Community Immigrant Support

What is Whatcom Faith Community Immigrant Support (WFCIS)? This group has representatives from 24 different faith communities and traditions. Together, in the past 11 weeks, WFCIS members have provided 224 weeks of groceries serving approximately 32 families and over 150 family members from newborns to grandparents. Through donations of gift cards, we were able to provide $3,800.00 of immediate financial support to families.

Many of the families are not able to or have chosen not to stay in our community so WFCIS is now helping remaining families transition to the Bellingham food bank. We will continue to be connected to these families and working with partners to coordinate long-term support. We will retain an “on-call” emergency food bank for new families dealing with detentions and deportations so that all immigrant families have food during a crisis. If you are interested in volunteering as a driver for food pick-up and delivery or to staff the pick-up/delivery location, please contact Sharon Camblin or Joy Haertig.
